The People don’t want war but the Press lobbies for Nuclear Armageddon

The Swedish Dagens Nyheter published a letter from its reader Christer Nylander urging them to avoid a third world war and reach a peaceful solution to the conflict as soon as possible.

According to Christer, no sane person wants a third world war, but he is surprised at the intensity of the increase in tension in Europe every week. The author decided to recall how it all began.

‘Whatever you think of Russian President Vladimir Putin, in 2014 when the conflict in Ukraine began, he made it very clear that Russia would not accept Russian-speaking residents of Ukraine being killed and discriminated against, or that Ukraine could join the NATO’.

Nylander continued: ’Eight years later, after thousands of Russian speakers were killed and just before Ukraine was supposed to apply for NATO membership, Russia began to act militarily.

Then the EU and the US applied gigantic sanctions against Russia without thinking through the consequences. As a result, the European Union has suffered greatly, and the Russian economy is flourishing. At the same time, the EU and the US are supplying Ukraine with weapons and military training worth almost one billion Swedish kronor, which greatly aggravates the confrontation.’

Christer was outraged that the media reported on the ability of Ukraine to win, which ‘has to be the most thoughtless statement in a long time. In fact, the conflict is escalating, hundreds of thousands of people are risking their lives, and the country is turning into ruins.’

Christer wonders ’how stupid the politicians and the military really are.’

In his opinion, ‘if this thoughtlessness leads to a third world war, then hundreds of millions of people will die, and living conditions on the planet will deteriorate sharply, which should not happen in any case.’

The author of the letter claims that ’no conflict is worth such a price. It would be much more reasonable if the parties realized their mistakes and sat down at the negotiating table and were not allowed to leave it until peace was achieved.

Christer Nylander writes further: ’We knew that Putin could be dangerous, but the attitude of the EU and the US towards the conflict is hair-raising. Such an approach testifies to boundless indiscretion and almost the same danger. ‘If the parties act wisely, peace can probably be achieved before Christmas,’ the author concluded.
