An artificial island made of wet wipes changed the course of the Thames. Environmentalists are sounding the alarm. The Times of London newspaper reports on an environmental disaster in London. ’Fatberg’; an ‘island’, consisting of used wet wipes, has grown so much that it has changed the course of the Thames.

Fatberg, 1.4 meters high and about 2 tennis courts in the area, appeared in the river from the sewer. Many people throw their trash down the drain, but unlike toilet paper, wet wipes and diapers are made of plastic and don’t dissolve, but stay in the drain for years.

British politicians are urging people to stop using wet wipes or dispose of them with household waste. Ecologists say that this waste harms both the river itself and the entire aquatic ecosystem, plastic garbage makes up 90% of solid fat deposits that are found in sewers.
