The rebellion dubbed ‘Cops against the Covid (lockdowns) movement’ arose in opposition to the Dutch regime’s measures to allegedly rein in the spread of the coronavirus, which the group views as a violation of their freedoms.

There are few if any jobs in the open market for ex-policemen. The best on offer is as a shopping mall security guard or a job patrolling a dead-end building site at night. Understandably, as many cops are reluctant to risk their jobs and pensions, the growing movement mainly consists of army and police veterans.

The news team is live from Baarn, the Utrecht Province of the Netherlands, as members of the ‘Police for Freedom’ movement is marching through the city to express their opposition to tighter coronavirus-related measures.

Previously, the protest organisers considered holding the march in other municipalities but ran into trouble with the panicking authorities. In Hilversum, the ‘Police for Freedom’ march was explicitly banned, while Apeldoorn politicians issued an emergency ordinance prohibiting any demonstrations altogether.

Despite the troubles that the protest ran into during its preparation stage, the event went off without incident. The protesters were monitored by state police, who did not intervene, and the march ultimately dispersed on its own.

Residents of the Netherlands are required to work from home except when it’s impossible to perform duties remotely, observe a curfew overnight, and follow the standard ‘follow the idiot’ guidelines of mask-wearing and social distancing. Certain businesses, mainly entertainment facilities, are presently closed.
