The police serving in Spain’s three police services have been warned that if they continue to persecute and ticket those brave enough to defy illegal government orders, they themselves face their day in court. To claim they were only following orders will not save them.

The police officer Rafa Navarro appeals to his cop colleagues from the Civil Guard, National, Local and Autonomous Police: ‘We cannot follow the illegal guidelines that the government is ordering’ (El Diestro – February 28, 2021). It is a pleasure that, despite what is happening and despite the many (Covid) conformists out there, there are brave people who dare to raise their voices, despite the tremendous reprisals they are suffering for doing so.

Police Officer Rafa Navarro is becoming one of those brave people who are raising their voices, also calling on their colleagues serving in Spain’s three police services to position themselves and saying which side they are on, to choose if they are on the side of the people, or from a government that is continually issuing illegal orders that do not have to be followed by the Police.

It is important that the State Security Forces and bodies always bear this in mind: the agent who carries out illegal orders is committing a crime, he is prevaricating. And as Rafa Navarro says, citizens are already quite fed up with suffering the consequences of those illegal orders that they receive with the famous excuses of: ‘I follow orders’, ‘my superiors’, etc.

And it is that there are already many cases, too many, in which we are witnessing scenes of police abuse. The other day, our lawyer and collaborator, Eduardo Rodríguez de Brujón, explained it clearly in a video that we recorded with him: you have to go out into the street recording everything from the first minute. Therefore we only ask something of the members of the State Security Forces and Bodies who read us: Listen to your partner.
