Imagine you’re running a restaurant that struggles to stay open. People come and go; they sit at its terrace tables and read your newspapers. On leaving they congratulate you on your business and some leave a dime on the coffee cup’s saucer.

You know a newsagent who offers a good service to the community. Customers come and go. They read the books and periodicals on the shop shelves and go on their way. We decry slavery but content to benefit from the unpaid labours of those who serve us.

How ironic it is that at a time when new terms like ‘Cancel Culture’ and ‘Shadow Banning’ is part of the everyday language the worst censor is a shoulder-shrugging indifference by readers. Almost one week into February, the single gift received, which we are thankful for, is insufficient to purchase a book from Amazon.

Yet, helping unpaid writers who bring us information censored by mainstream media is far easier than it has ever been. One can support simply by using their laptop’s keyboard and making a bank transfer. The time taken to do so is a fraction of the time spent on social media liking memes.

Here at Europe Renaissance, we understand that things are difficult and uncertain. But is this true for everyone except for a solitary Brit who kindly puts something on the plate each month?
