Massachusetts police officer Matt Lima became a US news hero after setting an example of kindness and compassion for those in need over the Christmas holidays.

Lima examined the check and found that the women had not paid for only a few of the items they were planning to use for Christmas dinner for the children. Two kids were next to them.

While the store employees were distracting the children so that they would not understand what was happening, the officer questioned the women. It turned out that one of them works, but the second, the mother of the children, was left without money in a difficult life situation.

In a comment to reporters, Lima said that he himself is the father of two little girls and is horrified that they could be left without food.
