More than 20 trains were detained in Germany for almost an hour because of a swan grieving on the railroad tracks because of the death of its companion, according to a press release from local police.

According to a statement by law enforcement officials on the Presse Portal website, the incident, which required a “special rescue operation”, occurred on 23 December on the railway connecting Kassel (Hesse) and Göttingen (Lower Saxony).

Two swans wandered into the area of the high-speed rail, and one of the birds died. The surviving bird did not want to leave the scene of the incident, and repeated attempts to lure it out of the way did not bring success either.

Firefighters from the Hessian commune of Fuldatal came to the rescue, who raised the bird with the help of special equipment.

“Due to the rescue operation, 23 trains were delayed for about 50 minutes,” the statement said.

The surviving swan was later released on the Fulda River. Source, Video
