Europe and The New Normal

Casting my mind back to 1984, my then-wife was pregnant with the first of our two sons. Our mood, that evening, was pensive and with good reason. Our headlines and TV news screen was dominated by the Cold War.

Confrontation between the Soviet Union and the Washington-led West led to much speculation. Our assumption was for the world quite mundane. Was this a good time to bring children into the troubled world?

Thankfully, we decided yes it was and why not? I had been born during World War II. Parents then had every right to wonder at the world they were bringing their unborn in to.

If anyone had prophesied that within five years the mighty USSR, greater in size and influence than Imperial German and Imperial Russia would collapse, the laughing would have brought the house down. We all know how that story ends.

I then think back to 2013 and recall my son’s amusement at my prediction that the United States would soon collapse. I seem to recall saying that the mighty United States would follow the USSR and, of course, the British Empire into oblivion. My son isn’t smirking now.

So, what are we to make of fast-moving events of 2020? This is difficult. Whilst I am usually good at making predictions I hesitate to predict what will happen by the time this story is last week’s news. Hesitantly, I would describe the future as ‘every nation to itself’ and all women and children being equals.

The Unites States is collapsing into the hardships, anarchy and civil war endured by earlier empires. The collapse will not be a spectator sport. We Europeans are hog-tied to the United States economy.

Furthermore, Europe’s defence is dependent upon NATO which is 70 per cent Washington-funded. The European Union’s foreign policy is that of the United States. The West’s mainstream media is directly or indirectly linked to CIA approval. To cap it all, The EU economy by which I mean the Euro currency is basically a branch of the New York-based Goldman Sachs Banking Corporations.

Let me give you a clue. ‘The most puzzling development in politics during the last decade is the apparent determination of Western European leaders to re-create the Soviet Union in Western Europe.’ ~ Mikhail Gorbachev, the last Soviet President.

I quote also Marine le Pen, the French nationalist who echoed the sentiments expressed by Russian-media, Sputnik: ‘It is no longer a struggle between left and right. It is a struggle between nationalism and globalism.’

This leads me neatly to my prediction of where our Europe is heading. As the mop flops the European nations will shed the European Union. The four Visegrad nations, Poland, Hungary, Czech Republic and Slovakia, will be joined by other rebellious states.

The nations bordering the Mediterranean will form a quasi-independent group as will the north-western and northern regimes.

One thing I can be certain of, Russia is ready to offer inducements that will leave many nations changing their allegiance from the United States to Russia and Chinese trading and mutually protective blocs. ~ Michael Walsh.
